Essential Oils in your spiritual practice

Hi Magical Beings!

Happy Monday!

Are you aware that essential oils can assist in your spiritual practice?

Let's dive in.

I came across essential oils in 2017, after becoming a Reiki master in October 2016. I remember entering a room and being greeted by a flowery, uplifting aroma that was better than any Glade plug-ins I had used or perfumes I had applied to my skin. While it smelled wonderful, there was something spiritual and earthy about it that I couldn't pinpoint, but it made me feel better and more uplifted. It felt as though I was a part of it, and it was a part of me. Approaching the source of the smell, I saw a diffuser emitting steam and realized that's where the aroma was coming from. I then asked and was told it was 'lavender essential oil,' known for creating a sense of calmness. I was hooked and knew I had to incorporate it into my meditation and Reiki practice.

Essential oils, which are natural oils extracted from plants, have been used for thousands of years not only for their physical healing but also for their ability to influence the mind and spirit. I discovered that using an essential oil diffuser during my meditation or Reiki practice made my experience more grounded and uplifting. It helped me stay focused when my mind was overactive, or when I felt irritated with myself for not 'successfully meditating.' I also found it kept me at ease during my Reiki sessions, benefiting both my clients and students.

My clients loved the aroma, which helped them feel calm and more at ease during the sessions. Essential oils have that effect, and I have found they help deepen your spiritual practice. Here is a list of ways essential oils can support you:

Connection to Nature: They help us connect with the natural world, enhancing spiritual awareness and harmony with the earth.

Enhancement of Meditation and Prayer: Essential oils can be used during meditation or prayer to deepen your spiritual experience. Oils like frankincense, myrrh, sandalwood, and cedarwood have been used in religious and spiritual rituals for centuries to promote a sense of sacredness and help achieve a meditative state.

Emotional and Psychological Well-being: Essential oils can influence the limbic system, the part of the brain responsible for emotions. Oils like lavender, rose, and bergamot are known for their ability to calm the mind, reduce stress, and elevate mood, beneficial in spiritual practices by helping to clear negative energies and promote positive feelings.

Energy Cleansing and Protection: Certain essential oils can purify, protect, and cleanse spaces and auras of negative energy. Sage, palo santo, and lemon are commonly used in smudging and clearing rituals to create a sacred space for spiritual work.

Chakra Balancing: In practices involving chakras, or energy centers in the body, essential oils are used to help balance these energies. Each chakra is associated with specific oils that can support its opening and harmonization, aiding in spiritual development and physical health.

Ancient Wisdom and Tradition: The use of essential oils is deeply embedded in the healing and spiritual practices of ancient civilizations, including the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, and Indians. These cultures recognized the potent spiritual and emotional effects of oils, incorporating them into their healing, anointing, and ritual practices.

Intuition and Creativity: Some essential oils are able to stimulate the pineal gland or third eye, which helps with intuition and spiritual vision. Clary sage, for example, is often used to enhance creativity and spiritual insight.

I hope I have convinced you to try essential oils in your spiritual practice. It is a nice addition to your spiritual connection.

Love you!

Alex
